2017 NYC Easter Parade

Each year on Easter, celebrants don festive finery and show off their very best bonnets along Fifth Avenue. Immortalized by Irving Berlin (with some help from Judy Garland and Fred Astaire), the pageant is a New York City tradition that stretches back to the 1870s.

Starting at about 10am and continuing until 4pm, the parade marches north on Fifth Avenue, from 49th Street to 57th Street. The best place to watch is from the area around St. Patrick’s Cathedral; better yet, bring your bonnet and join the parade.

Hope springs eternal at MLB’s ‘grapefruit league’

“Hope springs eternal” for the major-league teams and their fans who flew south to Florida’s Grapefruit League to catch a glimpse of their favorite team and players. Fans watched players stretch, participated in workouts, sought autographs, selfies and enjoyed the national pastime in the Florida sunshine.

‘Not My President’s Day’ protests in the U.S.

Thousands of people in cities around the country turned out to demonstrate against the policies of President Trump on Monday in a protest that organizers called “Not My President’s Day.” Yahoo News dispatched reporters to cover the major demonstrations in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and elsewhere.

‘I am a Muslim too’ rally in Times Square

Music Mogul Russell Simmons lead thousands at the I Am A Muslim Too Rally in New York and he has a thing or two to thank his ex-friend Donald Trump for.

Donald Trump has been under immense heat since he has taken his oath as the president of the United States. His inauguration has been colored with various protests all around the world, his executive orders have been met with nationwide protests and strikes, even his statements and tweets incite great disdain and disapproval from countries and world leaders.

Mourning the presidency: A mock funeral for Presidents’ Day

A New Orleans-style funeral in New York’s Washington Square Park hosted by Rise and Resist and GAG Is Watching on Saturday gave young New Yorkers the chance to grieve, march, sing, wail and ultimately “demand the rebirth of a presidency dedicated to the service of all peoples.”

Discarded protest signs from the Women’s March in NYC

Following the march in New York City, protesters left behind thousands of signs around Fifth Avenue near Trump Tower. Many signs left near a construction site were taken home by admirers as souvenirs. One group of placards was made into an art installation on East 57th Street, while many of these great signs were discarded near receptacles along Fifth Avenue waiting for sanitation.

The 90th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Since its origin in 1924, the Macy’s parade has marked the official start of the holiday season, introducing a cherished march of magic that has dazzled generations of fans. For the 90th edition, the famed spectacle will feature 16 giant character balloons; 27 novelty ornament balloons, balloonicles and trycaloons; 26 floats; 1,100 cheerleaders and dancers; more than 1,000 clowns; and 16 marching bands and performance groups.

‘Star Trek’ 50th anniversary exhibit

The Paley Center for Media will display the original art exhibit “Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years.” on Sept. 16-25, 2016, making it the only place in New York to catch the global art tour.

Created to commemorate Star Trek’s 50th anniversary, the out-of-this-world exhibit, curated by CBS Consumer Products, will feature original 2-D and 3-D artwork, expressed through various media, by 50 artists from 10 countries, including the late actor and photographer Leonard Nimoy and actress Mayim Bialik.

Love locks on the Brooklyn waterfront

A love lock or love padlock is a lock that sweethearts attach to a bridge, fence, gate, or similar public fixture to symbolize their love. Typically the sweethearts’ names or initials are inscribed on the padlock, and its key is thrown away to symbolize unbreakable love.
