ABC News required a FP image at 200 by 150 pixels with a short blurb on the GIF or PNG. This was the day of the dial up modem. A second FP 170 × 125 image was also needed. Two designer were on top of these all day long. Very time consuming of resources that could be gone elsewhere. A decent photo could have done the trick. These were challenging and sometimes fun to do.

In twelve years at CBS News the treatment for FP images changed. The rule of thumb is use photos unless there is nothing else. Sometimes the editor-in-chief wanted quality photo illustrations. The sizes changed every redesign as the FP images called BAI's were now extincted. A FP image was made as well as a story image that had four sizes. Many of older images from 9/11 disappeared from my storage (CD,DVD, Hard Drives) and many other designs I am still searching for.

Like many websites Yahoo was very interesting. The FP image was different size from the rest of the site. They used photos for FP art which great but when shooting or bombing occurred they did not have generics to take that spot. Guess who made them. So then photo illustrations become popular for original content like many of the images above. I would make a dozen of these a day. Many of simple photo illustrations I made in first four years at Yahoo were lost when a flood upstairs from the Facebook offices destroyed my computer and back up drive.
